HostDC vs your PC, a VPS, Replit and Railway

Where to run a Discord bot depends on how much operating work you want to take on. This page states what each option does well and where HostDC does not compete.

Option Price Uptime Sleeps when idle Setup effort Who maintains it
Your own PC Electricity Only while the machine is on No, it stops when you do Low You
A VPS From about €4 a month High No High: OS, updates, process manager You
Replit Free tier, paid for always-on Varies Yes on the free tier Low Shared
Railway Usage-based High No Medium Shared
HostDC Free $0 24/7 while reactivated weekly No Low: upload, paste token, start Us
HostDC Pro $2.49 a month 24/7, no reactivation No Low Us

Your own PC

Good at: it costs nothing and you already have it. Fine while you're writing the bot.

Hard part: it sleeps, reboots and loses its connection, so the bot is offline whenever you are. A development machine cannot give you uptime.

A VPS

Good at: total control. Any language, any daemon, a real database, voice bots, whatever you can install.

Hard part: you are now an operator. Kernel updates, a firewall, a process supervisor, backups, TLS, and a monthly bill that is usually several times a HostDC plan. If you enjoy that work, a VPS beats us.

Replit

Good at: writing and running code in the browser with nothing installed, and a large community of examples.

Different from us: it is a general development environment, and hosting is one of the things it does. HostDC only hosts Discord bots, which is why our console, health card and pool meters talk about gateway readiness rather than generic processes.

Railway

Good at: deploying general applications from Git, with managed databases and a usage-based bill that scales with what you run.

Different from us: it is a general application platform. HostDC has a fixed, small price and a fixed pool instead of usage billing, and a much narrower brief: Node.js, Python and Go bots, no custom images. HostDC's paid plans add a hosted database instead of Railway's usage-billed managed ones.

HostDC vs Cybrancee and Wispbyte

Cybrancee and Wispbyte are the two hosts people ask us about most, since both are dedicated Discord bot hosts rather than general platforms. Prices and specs below were checked 2026-09-24 and change without notice, so verify on the provider's own site before you commit.

Host Free plan Cheapest paid plan RAM per dollar (cheapest plan) Reactivation Ads on paid plans Languages Music / Lavalink
HostDC Free 256 MB RAM, 0.5 CPU, 512 MB storage n/a n/a Every 7 days, one tap from the reminder Google ads and sponsored ads pay for the free plan Node.js, Bun, Deno, Python, Go, Java, Rust, .NET and PHP External Lavalink server only
HostDC Mini none $9.99/year (about $0.83/month), 512 MB RAM, 0.75 CPU, 2 GB storage about 0.6 GB per $ None Only sponsored ads Node.js, Bun, Deno, Python, Go, Java, Rust, .NET and PHP External Lavalink server only
Cybrancee none $1.99/month, 512 MB RAM, unlimited CPU, 15 GB storage about 0.26 GB per $ None mentioned None mentioned Node.js, Python, Java, C# (.NET), Lua, Rust, Go, TypeScript Not documented
Wispbyte Yes, free forever; its free hosting page says no renewals and no credits Premium from €3.99/year; paid plans up to 8 GB RAM varies by tier None, per its free hosting page Not stated Node.js, Python, Java, C# Not stated on the free hosting page

Notes:

  • HostDC wins on RAM per dollar against Cybrancee's cheapest paid tier: $9.99 a year (about $0.83 a month) beats $1.99 a month for the same 512 MB by a wide margin. Wispbyte did not list its monthly bot plans on its store page when we checked, so compare the live storefronts before deciding on price per GB.
  • Wispbyte's free hosting page says its free tier needs no renewals, while HostDC's free plan asks for a reactivation every 7 days. If you would rather never think about it, that is a point for Wispbyte.
  • Cybrancee also lists Lua, which HostDC does not run. HostDC runs Node.js, Bun, Deno, Python, Go, Java, Rust, .NET and PHP.
  • Cybrancee lists scheduled backups and a 90-day money-back guarantee; Wispbyte's free hosting page does not mention backups. HostDC's retention is on the pricing page.
  • If you need a music bot with Lavalink, HostDC's Pro and Max plans host one (Lite can add it); Cybrancee and Wispbyte don't document it. See the full comparison for every host that offers Lavalink.

For every host side by side, including Sparked Host, PebbleHost, KataBump, Waifly and Kerit, see the comparison overview.

HostDC

Good at: keeping a Discord bot online with little operating work. You get a free plan with a 256 MB RAM pool, 0.5 CPU and 512 MB storage, paid plans from $9.99 a year up to $2.49 a month for Pro, a live console, encrypted tokens and a health card that shows whether the bot reached the gateway. See pricing and pick a runtime: Node.js, Python or Go.

Not good at: custom Docker images and languages outside those three. If you need any of those, rent a VPS. A hosted database and Lavalink for music bots are available on paid plans; see pricing.

FAQ

Can I move my bot away later?

Yes. Request a data export from your account page and you get a zip of your files, settings and history.

Can I host a music bot?

On Pro and Max, yes: they host a Lavalink server next to your bot. Lite can add one, and on Free or Mini you connect to a Lavalink server you run elsewhere.

Do you have a free tier like Replit or Railway?

We have a free plan with no end date. You reactivate your bots weekly from your dashboard, and it shows ads, which pay for it.
